7. Pay It Forward
We hope these blogs from one of our members will remind you that you are not alone and that others understand exactly what you are going through.
Happy New Year! And it is a new year, no matter what the calendar says. What better time to address moving on, starting anew, embracing the future, blah…blah…blah.
All in all, you’ve had a pretty lousy year. But, you are still here and you’ve got a life to live. It’s time to embrace the “new normal.” Please refer to previous blogs about recurrence paranoia and particular vulnerability, so we don’t have to revisit those little nasties. Whatever benevolent being you believe in (or don’t believe in), could not have intended you to go through such a disgusting experience for nothing. So, do something positive with it.
Pay It Forward. Share your unique experience with others who are at the beginning of the journey. They are desperate to talk to someone who can empathize. Even long time survivors will share if they know you have been there. They want to rejoice in the commonality of kicking cancer to the curb!
Or if you want to stay private and just move on, don’t do it as a victim. Do it as a victor!
Keep yourself healthy. Or get yourself healthy. So many studies have shown that diet, exercise and attitude have a direct effect on your health and your ability to fight illness. You dodged a bullet. Don’t waste it! Too preachy? OK, I will lighten it up.
I will tell you what my friend Karen’s theory is. She’s a Stage IV 6 year survivor who found out after she finished treatment, she needed both hips replaced. Don’t feel bad for her. She walks faster than a 4 year old boy now…but I digress. Karen says there are highly intelligent beings in the universe who haven’t made themselves known to us yet. They are coming to Earth and are looking for superior beings to run the show. But how will they know who those superior beings are? {Insert your own snarky political comment.} Rumor has it that they infected us with cancer, so we would be irradiated and injected with chemicals. Now we glow in the dark, so to speak. And, we have proven to be tough cookies! So survivors will rule the Earth. Now I really do not believe that the 3 Tequila Sunrises she imbibed, in any way diminishes the veracity of her message.
